As we all know, the Fat Lady has not yet sung. There is an old adage that says the hardest game to win is the clincher. That is just a stupid as all the other old adages. Monday night's drubbing was most likely my fault. I have been watching most of the games at home, leaving the pub because it's bad mojo. However, on Monday, it was pool league night. Hence I was not home.
I will be watching tonight's game at home with my puppy dog. Molly doesn't care much for hockey. She looks at me funny when I celebrate goals. She also seems to need to go out for a walk during the most important moments in a game.
Let's go Rangers!! Keep the Champagne, the golf clubs, and most importantly Lord Stanley's Cup on ice another day.

Golf
John McClane I'm not. I love my Rangers, but it's over. If you go to the game Wednesday, give the team a huge cheer whether they win or lose, because they gave us a heckuva ride, but they're not coming back. I am officially calling "Wait till Next Year."
Golf is my euphemism for the end of the season, as in The Knicks have been playing gold for 2 months now. I once said that if I were a coach of a team, I would have a set of golf clubs and if I thought a player was dogging it, I'd put the clubs by their locker. These guys didn't dog it. They were great. In a few days, though, they'll be playing golf.
When the Kings scored with a second left in the first, I felt like I was punched in the stomach. A friend who was at the Garden, told me that the place was silent even before the goal. I will say this about the Kings. They shoot that puck. They shoot from just about anywhere, and they put it on net.
If you are looking for good news in this post, take heart that my predictions aren't worth the paper they're printed on, and they're not even printed on paper. Oh, yeah, and Potvin still sucks.

Far From Over
Wow! Coming home down 2 games to none. This LA team is good! However, so are we. They say that no series begins until you lose a game at home. "They" are stupid. If that were true, then the Kings could win the series 4-3 and hoist the cup before the series ever started. Of course, it doesn't exactly work that way.
Sure, we've given up 2 goal leads in both games. But that also means we had 2 goal leads in both games. By the way, even though I say "we," I do realize that I'm not actually playing, and good for us. I was never very good at hockey in the first place, and now I'm old and not very good.
If you love hockey, and let's face it, you either love hockey or you don't watch hockey, nobody just "likes" it (except on facebook where they don't have a "love" button), you have got to be loving the action thus far. Nobody on the Rangers is thinking about throwing in the towel. They faced elimination down 3 games to 1 going into Pittsburgh. Likewise, the Kings are not about to relax. They've been down 3 games to none and come back.
Right now I feel like Willie Wonka (the original) saying "The Suspense is terrible, I hope it'll last." I had predicted Rangers in 6 mostly because I want them to clinch it on home ice, so I'm going to stick with that unless it becomes impossible.

Stanley Cup Preview
I must start this post by saying that if the Rangers pull it off, this blog is very poorly named. I remember 20 years ago when The Messier brought the Holy Grail to Madison Square Garden. That year we played against Vancouver for the championship. This year we are being coached by Vancouver's coach from last season.
The Los Angeles Kings are heavy favorites in this series. Barry Melrose didn't think the Rangers would even be here. He pointed out that no team had gone 7 games in the first two series and went on to win the cup. Well, that streak has to end this year because both teams went 7 in the first two rounds. In fact, the Kings went 7 in all three preliminary rounds.
There is a lot of talk about the Kings being a better team than the Rangers, and the West being a tougher conference. While it is true that the Kings and Blackhawks, both Western teams have won the last three Stanley Cups, I don't buy that it is a stronger conference. As for the better team, each series is more about matchups. I haven't seen the Kings play this year, but the Rangers, with their depth of scorers, 3 solid defensive lines and King Henry in the net can present matchup problems for any team in the league.
Prediction: I'm a jingoistic New York pr@*k. I'm gonna be off by only 34 years- Rangers in 6!
