Why 2048?

As the Rangers continue to uninspire, I am forced to long for the days of the lockout.  I was looking forward to this season when the last one ended.  The Rangers had a solid core of homegrown talent, and they had been smart in adding veteran pieces to the mix.  I thought they were poised to make a run for the cup.  I feel confident in saying that is not going to happen this year.  If past is prologue, I am officially targeting 2048 for the next Rangers ticker-tape parade.

How did I come up with that year?  I merely extrapolated the time between their last two cups and projected.  Now, it is true that the league is very different today.  However, the differences do not work in the Rangers' favor.  There were 54 years between cups for the Broadway Blueshirts.  For half of that time, there were only 6 teams in the entire league!  Even the law of averages should have granted them 4 cups.

Do I really think I am going to have to wait 35 more years for another Stanley Cup?  No.  Being a fan allows  me to believe that the promised land is just beyond the next bend in the road.  We will get there eventually, and when we do, Potvin will still suck.
